Saint John Mill Rats vs Windsor Express
Saint John was host to the Windsor Express tonight in the one game on the NBL-C schedule. In a battle of David vs Goliath, a much improved and scrappy Mill Rats team straight up out played the Express. This game marks the third straight loss for Windsor and the third straight win for the Mill Rats. The final score was 112-102 in favor of Saint John.
Mill Rat faithful were treated to a quick start as the home squad jumped out early and was all over the men in red. High octane basketball saw Saint John take a 24-15 lead to end the first quarter. Things would even out in the second time frame as Windsor regained their footing and outscored the home team 32-30 to cut into the deficit and enter the halftime break down 54-47.
Coach Jones and his Express squad made the necessary changes during the break and would fight back in the third. Midway through they would actually take a one point lead and then trade the lead back and forth with Saint John for several possessions. Despite that, both teams would answer point for point as the Express and the Mill Rats both scored 28 points in the third leaving the score 82-75. After a closely contested beginning to the fourth, Saint John pulled away late as Mayhane and Jones would take over and lead their team to the victory.
For the Mill Rats, forward Kenny Jones dominated to a game high 30 points and 9 rebounds. Johnny Mayhane also pitches in 26 points and 9 rebounds. Point guard Raheem Singleton lead this team and the game with 8 assisst and scored 16 points. Tyrone Levett lead all bench players with 20 points for Saint John.
Chris Commons lead his squad in scoring with 25 points. Kevin Loiselle had a solid night contributing with 17 points. Quinell Brown and Ryan Anderson rounded out the scoring for Windsor with 12 and 13 points respectively.
Saint John is now 10-13 while Windsor falls to 13-7 on their season.
