Game Day Recap February 1st

Moncton vs Halifax

Another exciting game is in the books as fans were treated to a nail-biting, back and forth game that saw Halifax narrowly defeat the Moncton Miracles on their home court after Forrest Fisher hit a game winning three with 3.6 seconds left.

A close first quarter saw Halifax take a narrow lead with the score 31-28.  Moncton found their groove in the second time frame, going up by as much as 10 points on the visiting Rainmen at one point.  Lucky for Halifax, a late quarter push saw the Miracle lead cut to 5 points going into the half time.  Despite outscoring Halifax 27-19 in the quarter, the Miracles only had a 5 point lead.

Again we saw an evenly matched second half has both teams battled hard and matched each other run for run.  Neither team was able to establish control of the game.  Fans were treated to an exciting game in the last 3 minutes as both teams were tied 93-93 with 2.24 left in the game.  Both teams traded baskets in the dying seconds, but it was Forrest Fisher who hit the game winning basket with 3.6 seconds left after Shawn Vanzant had tied the game seconds earlier.

Halifax is now 12-12 on their season and adds to their narrow lead over Saint John for the 2nd position in the Atlantic.   Moncton falls to a 7-17 record.

The Rainmen got a monster game out Kevin Young who posted game highs in points, rebounds and assists.  He posted an astounding near triple-double with 32 points, 14 rebounds and 9 assists.  Tyrone Watson had 14 points off the bench for Halifax while big man Liam McMorrow had a double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks.  Fisher added 12 points and the game winner in the win for Halifax.

Moncton saw Stanley Robinson put in a solid game with a team high 17 points to go along with 7 rebounds.  Four other players scored in double digits for the home squad: Lathan (15),  Brewer (13), Murray (11), and Vanzant (10) rounded out the scoring.
