Gameday -- January 17, 2016

Halifax (7-3) @ Moncton (3-6)

The red-hot Moncton Miracles were cooled down Sunday afternoon as the visiting Halifax Hurricanes ended their own 2 game losing streak.  The final score was 117-107 or the Halifax Hurricanes.  The win puts the Halifax Hurricanes at 7-3 on the young season, good for the tops in the Atlantic.  Meanwhile, Moncton falls to 3-6 and remains at the bottom of the division.

After a close first half that saw the Canes take a 61-50 lead heading into half, Halifax would break away from Moncton in the second half.  Moncton would rally several times during the third and fourth quarters but fail to get back into the game as Halifax answered every run.

Justin Johnson led the 'Canes with 28 points and 9 assists, while Mike Glover pitched in 23 points and a game high 9 rebounds.

For the Miracles, James Justice lead the way with 29 points, Anthony Gurley chipped in 15 points as well.  Both Tom Granado and Tydran Beaty gathered in 8 rebounds to lead their team.

Key note, 4 of Halifax' 7 wins have come against the Moncton Miracles.

Orangeville (2-5) @ Windsor (5-5)

The struggling Orangeville A's continued to struggle as they lost to the Windsor Express 111-95. Windsor would hold a 16 point lead to end the first quarter, eventually pushing their lead to as many as 20 points before going into the half only up 11, 57-46, thanks to a barrage of three's from the A's.

Much would stay the same in the second half in a very competitive third quarter.  Unfortunately for Orangeville, the Express would tighten their grip on the lead and win the game by 16 points.  Orangeville committed a horrendous 28 turnovers, 19 of those being steals by Windsor.  One bright point for the A's was their bench who scored 43 of their 95 points.

The Express was led again by their big three of Brandon Robinson (27 points), Chris Commons (26 points), and Tony Bennett (22 points).  Commons lead the game with 9 rebounds while Bennett and Robinson both collected 6 assists.

Orangeville was lead by Jameson Tipping's 16 points, Robert Diggs pitched in 12 points and a team high 7 rebounds.  Rick Bodiford would struggle from the floor hitting only 2-9 shots but would hit 9 of his 10 free throw attempts, good enough for 13 points.

Niagara (3-6) @ Saint John (7-4)

Niagara dropped game two of their two-game Atlantic road trip tonight as they lost to the Saint John Mill Rats 120-103.  This would be the Mill Rats first time facing a Central division opponent and have put together a three game winning streak.

The River Lions were outscored in three of the four quarters and struggled to keep up with the fast paced offense of the Mill Rats club.  Saint John would hold a comfortable 58-47 lead going into the break before extending their lead to 18 points after three quarters.  Niagara managed to outscore the Mill Rats in the fourth but it was too little too late.

The Mill Rats had a balanced scoring attack tonight as 7 players hit double digits, lead by Johnny Mayhane and Gabe Freeman's 18 points.  Anthony Stove had another great night with 13 points and a team 9 rebounds.  The DC Sniper Corey Allmond lead his team with 7 assists.   A great night offensively for the Mill Rats, their bench scored an impressive 59 points.

Logan Stutz scored a game high 27 points and added a game high 11 rebounds.  Da'Quan Cook helped out with 18 points for his squad and Sammy Zeglinski added 9 assist despite a poor night shooting the ball (3-17 overall, 1-10 from downtown)
