Gameday -- January 2, 2016

Island 108-105 Saint John

The Island Storm edged the Saint John Mill Rats 108-104 on Saturday to give the New Brunswick side their first loss of the season.

The two clubs went stride-for-stride through the first three-quarters, with both clubs deadlocked in quarter-by-quarter scoring, save for the 2nd quarter (Storm went up 50-49 at half).

Joe Salerno’s Storm used an effective three-point game, highlighted by a Malcolm Grant dagger with 1:18 left, to pull away from the Mill Rats and give them a 2-2 record.

Grant led the game with 24 points, going 9-11 from the floor and 5-6 from beyond the arc.

Both clubs will go on the road for Sunday matinees. Halifax will host the Mill Rats while the Storm will head to Moncton.

London 106-101 Orangeville

The London Lightning moved up to a 3-1 record on Saturday thanks to a 106-101 win over Orangeville.

London held the lead for nearly the entire game, using a deep bench (42 points from the bench) to pull them past a tired A’s squad who only saw eight players see significant minutes through the game.

A ninth player, Daniel O’Keefe, was brought into the game with moments left in the fourth quarter after Flenard Whitfield fouled out. Whitfield and Jameson Tipping both fouled out of the game.

Justin Moss led the A’s and game with 25 points and 14 rebounds. London’s Warren Ward had 24 points thanks to an 8-13 performance from beyond the arc.

The Lightning will host Windsor on Sunday for a 2pm start. Niagara will host Orangeville at 2pm as well.

Tip-off has been set for 7pm. A live-stream link has not yet been provided. Stats can be found here.

Windsor pulled away late after sitting at 113-113 late in the fourth quarter. A missed buzzer beater by Sammy Zeglinski (who had an incredible 18 assists) moved the River Lions down to a record of 1-2.

Brandon Robinson led the game with 35 points. Niagara’s Logan Stutz had 34 points and 13 rebounds.

The 2-2 Express will take on London at Budweiser Gardens on Sunday. Niagara will host Orangeville on Sunday as well.
